Hello,

Any other members of the forum (or Clarsach society) who are from the US or Canada? I live in New England. Studying the clarsach, thinking about taking it up. Looking for advice about makers, shops, makes, and playing styles. I am not aware of any wire harp societies based in the US.

Jonah

Lovley handmade maplewood clarsach for sale.

Hi,

I have a very beautiful maplewood handmade clarsach, from starfish designs in the highlands. I have sadly not had the time to learn properly and it is just sitting around, rather sadly unused. So I'm looking to sell it.

It has a wonderful bright tone, and is such a beautiful object that I have found it hard to let it go. It has gut strings and a soft case, with its own decorative leather case for the tuning key.

I anyone interested in purchasing it from me??

Melanie.

Norwegian harp

I have been playing the Norwegian harp for some years, all the time using nylon strings. Of course, this is not the historically right material, and I have now, eventually, made up my mind to convert to wire strings. I have had some experience with brass strings, but they tend to be cracky after some time. The original instrument I use a copy of, is dated from 1687. If anyone could tell me what kind of wire was possibly available and in use back then, I would really appreciate it!

Harp hunting

I'm not sure if this is the right place, but I thought I'd give it a shot. I need a travel harp, one that sounds good, has at least 26 strings, a full set of sharping lever, and absolutely must fit in the overhead compartment of an airplane. I have a nice floor harp which I love the sound of (deep and bell-like). However, in the next year or so I expect to do a lot of traveling overseas and I can't bear the thought of going without a harp. I did consider renting, but the expenses might stack ...

Wire Harp strings

Hi, I have purchased a 30 wire string Clarsarch harp. Unfortunately the top F string has broken. I bought new wire from the harp shop I purchased the instrument from but I think that the guage of the wire may be wrong as it keeps snapping. They sent me red brass .36 and the inside of my harp says .013" brass wire. Does anyone know if that is correct and if so where might I be able to purchase some from ? Many thanks

Rae

how to change a wire string?

Hi,

the inevitable has happened and my new little clarsach needs a couple new strings - I've been directed to this website by Bill Taylor of Ardival harps, to look for a "video presentation" of how to accomplish this (the two descriptions I have read both sound a little frightening) - is that video still available for download or internet streaming, and where can I find it?

many thanks,

asni
