| | I have been playing the Norwegian harp for some years, all the time using nylon strings. Of course, this is not the historically right material, and I have now, eventually, made up my mind to convert to wire strings. I have had some experience with brass strings, but they tend to be cracky after some time. The original instrument I use a copy of, is dated from 1687. If anyone could tell me what kind of wire was possibly available and in use back then, I would really appreciate it! |

| | Hello Stein Vi - this sounds really interesting! Sorry no one has come on to give you an info - the forum is still pretty new and not being fully used by members. I'll also put your request into our printed newsletter and direct folk here to reply to you. I'm afraid I don't know myself exactly what would have been used, but think that most makers today use brass wire - harpsichord strings which are available from http://www.malcolm-rose.com/ |
